Skip Sizes

With all the different size skips available, getting it wrong could mean overpaying for a skip that is too big or having to fork out for an extra one.
As skip hiring specialists, we have provided a description for each size we have available, along with what they’re best suited for.

See below to ensure you pick the right skip for your waste management needs.

4-yard skip (3m³)

4 yards is the smallest skip size available. They are a popular option for household waste disposal, with the capacity to hold up to 40 bin bags of rubbish.

We recommend 4-yard skips for home refurbishments, such as kitchen and bathroom refurbishments or garden clearouts.

A 4-yard skip is approximately 1.75m wide by 2.7m long and 1m deep, making its capacity 3m³.

Waste types collected in a 4-yard skip:
  • General
  • Garden
  • Construction and rubble
  • Wood
  • Cardboard
  • Metal
  • Plasterboard
  • WEEE

6-yard skip (4.6m³)

A 6-yard skip is better known as the small builder’s skip as they are ideal for small building projects and can hold up to 60 bin bags of waste.

It’s also the largest skip that can be filled with just heavy waste like soil, rubble and bricks.

A 6-yard skip will hold around 4.6m³ of waste, measuring 2m wide by 3.3m long and 1.15m deep.

Waste types collected in a 6-yard skip:
  • General
  • Garden
  • Construction and rubble
  • Wood
  • Cardboard
  • Metal
  • Plasterboard
  • WEEE
  • Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)

8-yard skip (6m³)

This is the most popular skip type in the UK due to its variety of uses. Traditionally known as the builder’s skip, it’s perfect for pretty much any household, industrial and commercial waste.

With a capacity to hold up to 80 bin bags, the 8-yard skip is also the largest size that can placed outside your property (but this may differ depending on your location).

The skip size of an 8-yard skip is 2m wide by 3.3m long with a depth of 1.2m, creating a volume of 6m³.

Waste types collected in a 8-yard skip:
  • General
  • Garden
  • Wood
  • Cardboard
  • Metal
  • Plasterboard
  • WEEE
  • Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)

12-yard skip (9.2m³)

The 12-yard skip is the largest skip size we supply and will hold around 120 bags of rubbish.

These are more suited to commercial waste disposal rather than for household rubbish. In fact, it’s not possible to place a 12-yard skip outside your property due to local council restrictions (unless you live on a private estate).

We recommend the 12-yard skip for factory and office clearances and industrial jobs.

A 12-yard skip has a capacity of around 9.2m³, with measurements of 2m wide, 3.7m long and 1.9m deep.

Waste types collected in a 12-yard skip:

  • Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
